What do you think? We've always wondered what he was... breeding unknown. He was from a ranch in Oklahoma. His mane is very blond (more so than his tail)

How tall is he? He looks like he's got some Welsh breeding if his height supports that theory. If so, it's more likely he's silver because silver tends to be somewhat minimal on some Welsh. That's a really difficult photo to tell from with the braids and the lighting... but, I think he is. Laughing

Here are a few more... when his mane grows out it is VERY blonde on the bottom, however when it is cut for hunters it appears darker

Also his height is 14.1 3/4. He may very well be part welsh but we can only speculate.

I'll take some more pictures today, however his mane is cut short currently. We called him sailor because his mane when long appears all sun bleached and we thought he looked like a surfer... hence the beach reference to sailor. He's jumping 2+ and there is actually a video here:

I'm still leaning to yes, but he's a really tough call. The only way to know for certain is to test. $25 and a couple days wait. I understand you may not feel a grade gelding is worth testing, but in his case there's just no way to know for sure.

He sure is cute!!

Yeah we are leaning towards getting him tested. I was inspecting him more closely today and he does have some actual silver in his mane. When we get some good daylight I'm going to take some pictures. Weather didnt cooperate today

See that's what makes it so difficult with these borderline minimal horses. I've seen some horses with alot more silver hairs than this one and no possible way they are silver.

Here is one example:

I can't wait to see his results though! It's always so exciting!

Yeah I can see that about the horse you posted. This little guy we always thought was flaxen chestnut, but he has dark roots and the darker points on the legs. But the legs arent black.

With his mane grown out he actually looks a LOT like the horse on the far left of the banner photos.

found this on my computer. His mane is blonde on the ends (very blonde) but has darker roots which is all you can see with the mane cut short. Tail is blonde mixed with brown. He is almost identical in color to my silver mini

That really almost looks like it could be Gulastra Plume. Does his mane look like his tail when it's long?

yes his mane is all blonde at the ends when its long. His forelock is blonde. What is a gulastra plume? I'm not familiar with that term.

It's named after the Arabian stallion Gulastra who produced a bunch of foals with the trait.

These are examples of it:

clicky... too big for this forum:

There are also minimal examples like:

Thanks! I did some research after you wrote it. That doesnt sound like what this pony has at all. Only a test will tell the truth for him. If he doesnt test as silver I have no idea what he is... since he is brown with chocolate points, and a flaxen mane and tail. We shall see Cool
