Shall we breed-Black or Silver??

Hi Everyone!

Need some input..
We are trying to decide whether to breed our Silver EE At QH mare to another silver carrier or to a black QH Stallion...(next season here in Aus) or here is another option a Grulla(black dun)... Has anyone ever seen a black dun with the silver gene...does it have a colour effect?
The silver carrier Stallion is a bay base...
What do you reckon, go for a homozygous silver on a bay/brown base or a true black base and maybe miss the silver--

It's a personal decision, however I would DEFINITELY go for the grullo. Silver grullos are STUNNING. Next best would be the black.

Well I just found out that my silver stallion Waspy Leo is also EE. Does that mean that they would have a silver black/bay/brown foal for sure? Also a possibility of a homozygous silver? I am just trying to figure all the genetic possibilities out too. What fun!

Your stallion can ONLY produce bay bases. With this mare he would have either bay or bay silver. 25% of them would be homozygous silver. 50% would be homozygous black. Some would be both.

Have you seen a silver dilution carrier plus dun on a black base?
Would it have a colour effect... interesting ...
We are crazy about Dun factor as well, so definitely a consideration!
The only Stallion we have over here in Aus that is a true Grulla is halter lines and our mare is working/sprint style and we have not ventured in the halter direction before ..so not sure if the best mix..
Will wait and see what she produces by our boy! Hoping for a silver tobiano(will be first for Aus in Paints) but happy for a live and kicking babe at this point Will arrive US breeding season!!
We are very late with our babes...so hard to be patient

It would only be the 3rd or 4th Paint here with silver so yes, it would be a very rare babe indeed.

Yes I've seen a few silver grullos, they are just stunning. They look like regular black silvers except with dun factor. Or they look like grullos with silvery manes and tails (and marbley lower legs). Very neat color.
