is my foal a silver buckskin?

I have a foal this year that is a buckskin. His sire is a perlino with EE AA have not tested him for the silver gene. His dam is a bay that has not been color tested. He was born with white eyelashes, partial stiped hoof, blond mane with a few black hairs and a blond tail at the top that fades into black at the bottom. his back two legs have white socks that go to black then to a dark brown.

From the sounds of it, he could go either way. I've seen buckskin born with very pale mines and very little black anywhere, but I've also seen silver buckskin born like this as well (though more often they look very palomino at birth).

Really, really tough call. My gut instinct is telling me no silver though.

I was just so surprised when he was born. The stallion can only throw buckskins so I wasnt expecting any surprises and surely not blond hair. I was unaware that a buckskin could have such a blond mane. either way he is going to be one good looking mount. I will post when I get the test results back.

And I've seen them blonder as well. It's probably a heavy dose of frosting coupled with baby flaxen.

You don't think it would be worth testing acc? It's the dark rims around his ears that make it consider it. His legs do look like points but I'm assuming you're putting this down to sooty?

I have no doubts he's buckskin. Zero. It's just a matter of whether he also has silver. It's probably worth a test, but I suspect it's not there.
